FEBRUARY 27 – MARCH 2, 2019
It is 1918 and much of the western world is reeling from the horrors of World War 1. When Elsie Wright and her young cousin, Frances Griffiths, claim to have captured - through photographs - images of fairies, the grieving public turn to these ethereal images in desperation. Many, including novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, are seeking proof of the existence of small spirits in the hope that these findings mean that their lost loved-ones are not gone forever. However, Winifred Douglas, a zealous journalist, is not so easily convinced of the authenticity of the images and is determined to reveal the truth behind the girls’ story. She is perplexed though when her investigation leads to more questions than answers, as she probes deeper into the verity behind the photographs. Playwright, Silva Semerciyan, has created a new text that reimagines an old tale, bringing to light fresh ideas surrounding ‘art’ and how original work is interpreted.
